Once again the sharp rise and fall of mining stocks demonstrate the volatile of the precious metals markets. The problem as previously discussed is that when estimating the extraction cost many mines simply do not know what price their mined silver or gold will fetch when it is brought to the surface.

Silver remains a safe haven for investors worried over the equities market. Consequently although there has not been the rapid increases of last year there has over the last month been a stable price with signs of it settling around the $12.50 mark.

As the Easter season begins there is a spring in the step of our Mayflower Street, Plymouth jewellery shop. The Plymouth City Centre Company have confirmed plans for a new mayflower Street marketing campaign including the introduction of a fabulous new logo called "mayflower man". We all wait and hope in eager expectation.

Jewellery and the Depression
The optimism of 2008 has been replaced with the pessimism of 2009. As budgets tighten, more and more are moving away from Gold and into Silver. The fashion blip of the troll beads has now passed with plain silver rings and pendants now becoming the latest fashion accessory. As predicted the price of silver has remained high and will continue to do so whilst global stock markets continue to recede. Therefore there is no better way of investing your hard earned shillings than into silver. You could deposit your money in a bank and earn 0-1% interest. You could invest in the stock market and lose all of it in a couple of months. Alternatively you buy some silver jewellery and in few months have an item worth more than you paid for it.

Current price of Silver
A silver price of slightly above $11.20 an ounce is indicative of market stability however it has recently seen some sharp falls in the past few months and therefore caution should be exercised before making any investment.
