With darker evenings, cold, wind and snow the winter months are often associated with rich deep colours such as the dark purple of amethyst or the mystical deep red of garnets. Both are enhanced by the natural awe of lustrous silver.
Aside from using silver of gemstones another greta choice for winter would be some of the natural materials we use for our necklaces such as wood. Pictured below is such a necklace and the rustic charm of the carved wood blends well with the winter clothing.
The rich dark reds of a garnet stone have a long history dating back as far as the Bronze Age. Garnets have also been mentioned throughout the bible and indeed garnet was chosen by jacob to represent the family of his son Judah.
Another gemstone ideally suited for the winter months is Amethyst. Its rich purple colour will blend well with the darker blues and greens of winter coats.
The winter months for the northern hemisphere are December, January and February. The birthstones for those months are Blue Topaz, Garnets and Amethyst respectively.
